Water is Life:
Building Water Wells for a Future of Hope and Health

Join us! Since 2009, we’ve been bringing safe and clean water to villages in Sierra Leone, saving children from diseases caused by contaminated water. Be part of the change and transform the future of entire communities.

ABOUT US

We are an independent and neutral NGO, operating outside the usual channels of larger organizations, reaching the isolated corners of the world cut off from the system. We believe that a small, concrete action can make all the difference in helping someone get back on their feet. This is the mission of our small organization: to change the lives of those who have lost hope, overwhelmed by the daily struggle to survive. Our focus is especially on women and children, as they are often the most affected in times of hardship, yet they prove to be the strongest. When they thrive, the entire community flourishes and becomes better equipped to face its challenges.

We are committed every day to changing the lives of the most vulnerable and isolated people through fundraising and the implementation of concrete projects. In 20 years of activity, thanks to the experience and determination of our President, we have built a stable and reliable network of partnerships with various national and international non-profit organizations. Our goal is to create strong collaborative networks that promote targeted projects and actively involve local communities, making them the key players in their own development and the initiatives they create. We believe that only through an inclusive and collaborative approach can we achieve lasting and sustainable change.

Over one-third of the population in sub-Saharan Africa still lacks direct access to a safe and potable water source.

In these regions, fetching water often falls on the shoulders of women and children, who must endure daily walks of 4-5 hours to reach ponds, puddles, and other sources that are often contaminated. This has severe health consequences, with diseases such as malaria and typhoid, which can even lead to death.

People Impacted

Since 2009, thanks to our partnership with “Little Steps,” we have built 40 wells that provide safe and clean drinking water directly to over 20,000 people in 33 villages in the Koinadugu region, northern Sierra Leone.

Each well drastically reduces waterborne diseases and gives back precious time to women and children, allowing them to focus on education and community development.

OUR COMMITMENT: SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS

Access to clean drinking water is a cross-cutting factor that positively impacts multiple aspects of sustainable development, aligning with the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development Goals. Specifically:

What Our Supporters Say

Read below the testimonials from some of our donors who have shared how meaningful it has been for them to contribute to this project, and how their donations have not only transformed the lives of the beneficiary communities, but also their own lives, as they made a difference.

For a parent, the pain of losing a child remains unchanged over time. Words cannot ease the sorrow or fill the emptiness. However, meeting the founders of FDS and the idea of dedicating a well to our son has brought comfort to our hearts.

It was the desire to help those in greatest need that prompted me to reach out to several organizations, including Fonte di Speranza, to see if I could fulfill my parents’ wish to do good for those who need it most.

I believe that the story of my donation is similar to many others who, at some point, feel the need to give more meaning to the life they’ve been given. Now that I’ve been retired for a year, I’ve started reflecting and feeling a strong desire to do something for those in greater need.
